The 10 Joy And Struggle Of Being An Only Female Child In A Rich Home

Posted by on September 28, 2016.

There are advantages and disadvantages in everything in this world. We all crave for that comfortable life but unfortunately, not all of us can live that life.

It’s great being in a family where there’s financial stability and influence but being an only child in such a family comes with it’s own issues aside all the goodies.

Being an only child is joy but being a female only child has it’s own issues.

Below are the good and the bad of being an only child and a female.

 1. Over Pampered

Being an only child in a rich family can be such bliss, you get pampered to the extent that if you’re not careful, you’ll even not be able to do anything for yourself. If your parents have their own way, they’ll construct a road for your use alone.

2. Over Protection

Your life is very important to your parents and they’ll do anything to protect you and make sure you don’t stray. Sometimes getting out of the house on your own can even be a problem. Male visitors are mostly prohibited until you’re more than an adult. It can get quite irritating and some children rebel against such protection when they become adults.

3. You Do Nothing

As an only child in a rich family, even though you’re a girl, you’re not made to do anything. There are house helps to make your life easier. They wash for you, clean for you and do basically everything for you. You just have to sit and command and your wish becomes a reality.

4. No One To Relate With

It’s all good until you start feeling lonely because you don’t go anywhere and you are not allowed visitors. While your parents are out working, you’ll be home all by yourself. And because you see the helps as not on the same level with you, you can’t flow with them so you’re left all by yourself. I love money but can’t live such a life.

5. Friends Become Your Life

Since mom and dad have to go out to hustle and bring that paper, you’re mostly left on your own. If you’re allowed visitors which are mostly females, they become your life. You spend more time with your friends than with family (mom and dad). There are times such children will skip family gatherings for a friends event. Some even go to sleep over at their friends house.

6. You Can Have Your Way Most Times

It’s just plain logic. You’re their only child and they’ll do anything to make you happy. Unless it has to do with boys, they’ll practically agree to anything you ask. whatever will make you happy, they’ll do since they don’t want to see you sad in any way. Unless it has to do with the opposite sex and they are not comfortable  with it or your grades are dropping and they want to use what you’re asking as a bargaining tool to get you to perform better.

7. You Get Addicted To Gadgets

Aside friends who can’t be with you 24/7, you only have your gadgets as your companions. Also, because there’s money at home, you get to have all the latest gadgets, it’s just a matter of you requesting. This trend can lead to you becoming overly addicted to gadgets which can affect your relations with friends and even your family.

8. Extended Family Members Envy You

It’s quite frustrating seeing your relative with all the money yet you’re struggling with life. yet you see them showering their child with all the good things of life. Once the child makes a request, it’s quickly honored. This leads to envy and hatred for the child. I know you’re thinking, they should go make their own money too, but the truth is that, in our part of the world, most people feel their relatives need to give them a piece of their wealth.

9. You Become Overly Dependent On Your Parents

Since you don’t do anything, you become overly dependent on your parents. They do practically everything for you. From school stuff to traveling arrangements. You become used to such life to the extent that once you find yourself all alone or away from your parents, you find it difficult to survive. I know girls who are in the university yet send their clothes home for house helps to wash or send to the laundry.

10. Male Visitors Are Subjected To Thorough Scrutiny

Like I mentioned earlier, if it’s a male visitor, you’ll have a lot of issues because your parents won’t easily accept him. They don’t want a situation where you’ll end up pregnant and derail all their plans for you. They are investing a lot of money into you and they’ll want you to to grow to be in a good profession. Therefore, any male visitor to your house is subjected to a lot of questioning by your parents especially your dad. Until they are convinced with his motive for being your friend, he might not be allowed into the house again.
